The police on Friday arraigned a salesgirl, Blessing Michael, 24, in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, charged with theft of N72,850.
Michael, of Olatunji Street, Ojota in Lagos State, is facing a one-count charge of theft.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the case was reported by
Chineme Ikekwemi, Michael’s employer, at Ogudu Police Station on Feb. 10.

He added that the offence was committed on Feb. 28 in Ikekwemi’s shop, Ojota,

Ihiehie said the salesgirl stole N72,850 from the shop when Ikekwemi travelled after she had sold drinks worth N172,850 to customers.
The prosecutor added that the shop owner said she had account of all the drinks in her shop before she travelled, noting that as at the time she travelled, there were
drinks worth N16,050 left in the shop.

He said that when Ikekwemi returned from her journey on Feb. 27, Michael could not give account of what she sold in her absence.

N100,000 and could not account for the N72,850 balance of the money for the drinks.

The prosecutor added that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty and the Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, granted her bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.
