CAF Election:FG asks Pinnick to decide

The coast is now clear for President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick to exercise his authority at the the forth coming Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) election billed for Addis Ababa Ethiopia on March 16.
Pinnick like President of other Football Associations will be entitled to vote for who becomes the next CAF president, had set tongues wagging after he publicly declared that he will back President of Madagascar Football Association Ahmad Ahmad who is challenging incumbent President Issah Hayatou.  While some tongue lashed the former Delta FA boss for speaking his mind others insisted that the era of sitting on the fence are over.
However rising from a meeting of the Football House in Abuja with the Hon Minister of Sports Solomon Dalung, decision was reached that Amaju should go and do the needful and most importantly his discretion to vote for a candidate that will help Nigeria. The 39th Ordinary General Assembly of CAF will see Hayatou who has been at the helm since 1988 lock horns with Ahmad.
Ahmad, a member of the Caf Executive Committee, is currently in his third period of office with Madagascar.
The 57-year-old believes he has what it takes to govern affairs of the game in the continent.
Hayatou was re-elected unopposed during the last Caf presidential elections in 2013.
The Cameroonian had previously stated this term would be his last until a change of regulations altered his stance.
In 2015, Caf voted to change the statutes which previously stopped officials serving past the age of 70.
This paved the way for Hayatou, who turned 70 last year, to stand in the election.
The elections will take place in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa otherwise called City of Flowers as the organisation celebrates its 60th year of existence.
Whoever wins the election will be limited to a maximum of three terms in office after Caf amended its rules last year.
Only members of the organisation’s 15-man executive committee can contest the presidential election.

ECONOMY COMING OUT OF RECESSION SAYS PRESIDENCY

The Presidency on Tuesday reacted to the review of the economy by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), saying the report indicated that the economy was coming out of recession.
“There are now indications that the Nigerian economy is well on its way out of recession considering the 2016 overall and last quarter Gross Domestic Product reports,’’ the Presidential Adviser on Economic Matters, Dr Adeyemi Dipeolu, said in a statement.
A review of the recent GDP figures released by the NBS shows a contraction of -1.30 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2016, translating into an estimated economic growth rate of -1.51 per cent for the full year.
Dipeolu said the Nigerian economy actually performed better overall last year as the growth rate was higher with a contraction at -1.5 per cent than the -1.8 per cent predicted by the IMF.
He said the report had raised the hope that Nigeria was gradually coming out of recession with the improving trends in several key sectors of the economy including agriculture and mining.
The presidential aide said the Buhari administration was also hopeful that with the series of ongoing engagement with the oil-producing communities of the Niger Delta, the increased oil production output would be sustained.
He added that the ongoing implementation of the Social Investment Programmes and significant infrastructural spending of the Federal Government would spur a positive multiplier effect on the Nigerian economy.
He said same effect was expected from the possible early legislative passage of the 2017 budget.
“The Buhari administration will not relent in its determined effort and its comprehensive approach to bring about the full recovery of the Nigerian economy and set it on a solid path of sustainable growth.
“Our work continues and we renew the pledge to do it with diligence, and the firm commitment it deserves,’’ he said.(NAN)

NDIDI TIPPED TO REPLACE KANTE

Nigerian international and Leicester City midfielder Winifred Ndidi has been tipped to surpass the exploit of N’Golo Kante for the foxes.  The 21 year old former Genk ace has become a major talking point following his five star performance on Monday as embattled defending champions Leicester who appear to have forgotten how to win matches, grabbed their first victory this year  hitting Liverpool 3-1.
Most analyst say Ndidi may be some way behind Kante in terms of development and maturity, but he has the talent, the temperament and the willingness to learn and improve and his super performance on Monday night did not go unnoticed.  He won 11 of his 14 tackles, a feat exceeding the entire Liverpool defence combined and bettered only by Kante, the man he replaced and with whom he has been compared. Kante won three more against the same opposition earlier in the season.
Ndidi also made five out of five clearances from his penalty area, added another three out of three headed clearances and won three of six aerial duels in a robust, full-bodied performance. For all of that, he was only penalised for one foul. What the numbers did not however say according to them is the devastating effect his midfield command played in disrupting Liverpool’s game to facilitate Leicester’s victory.
Some analysts noted at the end of the Monday showdown that “Ndidi only turned 20 last December, but his understanding, interpretation and execution of his role in midfield is one that puts him a position to be among the best in the world within a few years”
His form no doubt is sure to be a plus for Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr who is faced with battles against Cameroon and Algerian in the World Cup qualifiers.

ONION MAGIC THAT YOU WON'T BELIEVE, 5 WAYS TO CUT IT WITHOUT CRYING

Many people have been wondering what really causes one to cry while slicing onions. Well, the reason is very simple.
As we eat onion, it releases enzymes that act as catalysts for us weeping over your kitchen counter.
When these molecules are released they form a type of acid which then reacts with the air the resulting gas hits your eye, reacting with the water there to create sulphuric acid, which burns.
This leads to more tears as your eyes tries to get rid of the stinging.
How can you chop and onion without crying? There are a few tips and tricks you can employ to prevent sobbing your eyes out every time you need to cook up an onion-filled dish.
1. Light a candle
The idea is that the flame will get rid of some of the fumes which cause the gas.
Without them, you shouldn’t have as much of a problem.
2. Freeze it first
You need to pop the onion in the freezer about 15 minutes before you want to chop it.
The cold is supposed to stop it releasing the molecules which cause all the problems.
Slicing an onion in water works too, again because it stops the vapour hitting your eyes.
3. Soak it
Popping an onion in water once it’s peeled but not cut also helps.
It apparently draws out the compounds, meaning there aren’t as many to react with your eyes.
4. Use a spoon
Pop a spoon in your mouth while you cut your onion and you won’t cry.
It works because the chemicals bind to the metal of the spoon before they can get to your eyes, so you don’t cry.
5. Get chewing
Some people suggest putting a bit of bread in your mouth, with part of it hanging out.
This is supposed to catch some of the chemicals before they reach your eyes.
Chewing gum also helps as it makes you breathe through your mouth, which disperses the irritants more. That means less get to your eyes, so you won’t cry.
What chemical in onions makes your eyes burn?
The exact chemical that makes our eyes burn so much when we chop up onions is syn-propanethial-S-oxide.
This volatile sulphur compound wafts towards your eyes where it then forms sulphuric acid.
The sulphuric acid then causes that dreaded burning sensation and resulting tears.

Gunmen kills four Abia vigilante

A four man gunmen suspected to be members of a notorious armed robbery gang terrorizing visitors and residents of Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State has reportedly killed personnel of the Abia State Vigilante Service (AVS), otherwise known as Bakassi boys.
It was gathered that while three of the AVS personnel died on the spot, another member of the security outfit died on the way to the hospital.
Unconfirmed reports have it that other personnel of the State Vigilante service and some passersby that sustained gunshot are receiving medical attention in undisclosed private hospital.
Another report has it that the vigilante group had foiled a kidnap attempt of an Aba based business woman at Popular Tonimas junction by the gunmen, not knowing that the gunmen later trailed them.
It was gathered that the gunmen on sighting the AVS team near the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) office along Aba-Owerri expressway road while they were on a routine patrol, opened gunshot on them, killing three on the spot.
It was gathered that the incident which happened on Monday evening caused pandemonium around the area, forcing many shop owners to hurriedly close their shops while motorists and other road users abandoned the ever busy expressway which serves as a major entrance
and exit route from the commercial city for alternative ones to avoid police arrest and gridlock that was already building on the road.
A source from one of the security agencies in the state who pleaded anonymity confirmed that four members of the AVS died as a result of the shootout, but couldn’t confirm if there were others admitted in any hospital in Aba.
The source who said that the hoodlums used a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) to carry out the act, added that police and other sister agencies shortly after the incident, blocked possible exit routes of the hoodlums.
According to the source, “We (security agencies) are on their trail and will soon get to them. We are closing up on them. We want to use this opportunity to appeal to Aba residents to report to the police and other security agencies in the state about any suspicious movement
of persons in their areas.”
Recall that the state government had at the weekend imposed a 6am to 7pm ban on the operational hours of commercial motor and tricycle operators in the state as part of measures to curb the activities of hoodlums and gunmen in the city of Aba and other parts of the state.

“Buhari Is Using Ali Modu Sheriff To Destroy Our Party” – PDP Says

The Kwara State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has alleged the party’s National Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff working with President Muhammadu Buhari to destroy their party.

A faction of the party in the state led by Sunday Fagbemi made the allegation during an extra-ordinary meeting of the party in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Tuesday.
Fagbemi who described Sheriff as “a loyal in-law” to Buhari, said the former Borno state governor behaved like a gangster by breaking into the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
He noted that Sherriff by his action had demonstrated his lack of capacity and capability to lead the former ruling party.
According to Fagbemi, “We see and know Sherrif as agent provocateur, working in tandem with the APC, as his relationship with President Mohammed Buhari as a loyal in-law is well known to all Nigerians.
“We saw the temporary ‘victory’ of Sheriff as a travesty of Justice and victory for APC, which is interested in the destruction and decimation of opposition parties in Nigeria, particularly the PDP.”
Following a Port Harcourt Appeal Court ruling affirming Sheriff as the Chairman of the party the former Borno State governor stormed the party’s National Secretariat last week to take over, promising to resume officially this week

NIGERIA GAINS MORE STRENGTH AGAINST DOLLAR AS CBN PUMPS $180

In less than one week, the naira has gained over N85 against the dollar – thanks to the increased liquidity in the foreign exchange market.
The currency exchanged for N430 to the greenback yesterday at the parallel market, and noted to be N460 to the dollar at the weekend.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) yesterday released $100million into the wholesale forwards segment of the market and $80million into the banks specifically for the settlement of dollar demand for school fees, medicals and Personal Travel
Allowance (PTA), among others.
CBN spokesman Isaac Okorafor, in a release, said that its commitment to providing enough forex for legitimate business remained unshaken, pointing out that it would do all that is required to ensure the steady supply of forex to the market.
Naira’s appreciation has raised hopes that the naira/dollar exchange rate may well be on a permanent journey to the N300 to the dollar predicted by some analysts in the past.
The apex bank last week rekindled the forex market by releasing $500million to be accessed through the Deposit Money Banks to fund school fees, Personal travel Allowance and medical bills.
The CBN had maintained that much of the dollar demand had been a bubble created by speculators and hoarders of the greenback, warning market players and keepers of dollars to make hay and sell their holdings to avoid heavy losses.

Ibrahimovic mocks league rivals, pokes fun on Pogba

Manchester United forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic ripped into Premier League rivals after their EFL Cup win over Southampton on Sunday. The former Paris Saint Germain helped the Red Devils to a memorable cup win with a double to cancel out Manolo Gabbiadini’s effort for the Saints. After the match, Ibrahimovic in his usual egoistic nature took time to mock the rivals.
He said: ‘We are winning. After seven months I have two trophies with this club, there are other clubs that didn’t win for 10 years. I’ve won what they won in 10 years, so I’m happy with that.’
Ibrahimovic’s comments may be directed at the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal that have not being able to compete at the top in the last decade due to different reasons.
The lanky Swede also took time to troll teammate, Paul Pogba who said: “That’s why we bought him.” during the post-match interview; before Zlatan interrupted by saying: “Bought me? I came for free. They bought you.”
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has continued to prove his critics wrong with his performances for the Red Devils since arrived last summer window, becoming a key figure for Jose Mourinho with consistent impressive performances.
