The Cross River Police command on Monday said it had
arrested an armed robbery suspect, Micah Emmanuel-Udom, in Calabar.
Mr Hafiz Inuwa, the
Commissioner of Police in the state, disclosed this in an interview with the
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar.
Inuwa said that the
suspect was arrested on Feb. 28 at the Government College, Ikot Ansa, in
Calabar following a tip-off.
“On Feb. 28, we
received a distress call that some hoodlums were gathering at the Government
College in Ikot Ansa, Calabar Municipality, with the intent to plan an
operation.
“My men from the
Federal Housing Division swung into action and members of the gang took to
their heels on sighting them.
“My men arrested one
Micah Emmanuel-Udom and one AK 47 rifle and three rounds of 7.62mm ammunition
were recovered from him.
“We also recovered a
Toyota Camry car and a Passat Volkswagen car from the scene suspected to be
stolen cars,“he said.
He said that personnel
of the command were working tirelessly to arrest other suspects now at large.
The commissioner said
the command would not relent in its efforts to fight crime and other forms of
illegality in the state.
He urged members of the
public to continue to avail the command with useful and timely information that
would lead to the arrest of suspected criminals.
