An appeal against the arrest warrant for German
journalist, Deniz Yucel, has been rejected by a Turkish court, Yucel’s lawyer,
Veysel Ok, said on Wednesday.
Yucel is a
correspondent for Germany’s Die Welt newspaper.
Yucel’s reporting could
not be interpreted as journalism or within the context of press freedom, the
judge said in a document.
More than two weeks
ago, a magistrate in Istanbul ordered Yucel to be remanded in custody, after 13
days in police custody.
Pre-trial detention can
last up to five years, before ending in release or a trial.
Yucel has been accused
by Turkish authorities of spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization.
