Agency of Nigeria (NAN) “nan.ng’’, has been nominated for the Best Online Media
Website category for the 2017 edition of the “.ng Awards”.
The .ng Awards, organised by the Nigeria Internet
Registration Association (NIRA), is a celebration of the achievements and
innovation of Nigerian Internet initiatives.
Mr Adebiyi Oladipo, the
Chairman Communication and Publicity in a statement on Monday in Abuja said
that NAN was listed for the award based on its strides in promoting local and
original contents online with the .ng domain name.
“NAN has evolved an
efficient and effective news gathering network of professional correspondents
and world class information gathering system for credible, unbiased and
authoritative news as it breaks.
“We believe in the
power of the Internet and are determined that the .ng domain name space that we
are responsible for has a positive impact on the lives of Internet users.
“We know there is a lot
of really great work out there and we want people to know about it, talk about
it, engage with it and put it into the spotlight,” he said.
Oladipo said that NAN
was nominated by the general public and assessed by the Award Jury as fulfilling
the criteria for this category.
He added that NAN would
be competing with other nominees in the category and the winner would be
determined by number of votes.
Other nominees for the
Best Online Media Website award are naija.ng, news24 Nigeria, Pulse NG,
Techpoint.ng, Cable Newspaper Ltd, Techpoint.ng, techsmart.ng,
CFAtech.ng, and today.ng.
According to the organizers,
other categories of the .ng Awards include .ng Company of the Year, Most
Innovative Online Service Company, Best Print Media Website and the Best
Electronic Media Website (Television) among others.
Under the Best
Electronic Media Website (Television) are iroko.ng , one of
Nigeria’s largest internet and entertainment companies and nta.ng, Nigerian
Television Authority for supplying latest breaking news and information
on top stories and news.
The 2017 edition of the
award is slated to hold on Friday April 21 in Lagos.
