Obama honoured by Kennedy Library

Former U.S. President Barack Obama is being honoured with an award for political courage, the John F Kennedy Library announced on Thursday.
The library said in naming Obama the recipient of its Profiles in Courage award that throughout his eight years in office, Obama demonstrated “grace under pressure’’.
Caroline Kennedy, the president’s daughter who served as ambassador to Japan under Obama, said her father called on a new generation of Americans to give their talents to the service of the country.
“With exceptional dignity and courage, President Obama has carried that torch into our own time.
“By providing young people of all backgrounds with an example they can emulate in their own lives,’’ she said.
Obama, who left office in January, said he was “humbled to be recognised by a family with a legacy of service”.
Obama, who has not yet made public appearance since leaving office, would accept the award at a ceremony on May 7 at the library in Boston. NAN.
