The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board says it is considering using mobile phones for pilgrims’ enlightenment.
This is contained in a statement signed by the board’s Public
Relations Officer, Alhaji Nuhu Badamasi, and issued to newsmen on
Tuesday in Kano.
According to the statement, the Permanent Secretary of board, Malam
Abba Yakubu, made the remark at an interactive session with stakeholders
in Kano.
He said the measure became necessary as it would complement the
effort it was making during the weekly and daily induction course.
Yakubu said the new initiative when introduced, would also educate
prospective pilgrims on the need to adhere strictly to the rules and
regulations governing the Hajj rites.
He said enlightening the pilgrims through mobile phones was a new
innovation which should be embraced by pilgrims seriously, considering
the immense benefits to be derived from it.
He solicited the cooperation of all intending pilgrims and the general public for the success of the exercise.
The Chairman of the board, Sheikh Abba Koki, solicited the
understanding and support of this year’s intending pilgrims who may wish
to carry excess luggage to engage the services of Cargo Airlines.
He warned that the board would no longer permit the possession of 32kg and eight kg luggage for each pilgrim.
