Police arrest man with fresh woman skull, hands in Lagos

The police in Lagos have confirmed the arrest of a middle-aged man found in possession of a fresh woman head and two hands at Muwo area of Badagry.
An eyewitness, Mr Solomon Adube, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Badagry that the suspect was seen carry a sack with blood dripping from it.
“The man was seen carrying a bag with blood dripping from it but when he was asked what was in the bag, he claimed it was bush meat, saying he had just finished hunting.
“The people insisted on seeing the bush meat but he didn’t oblige, so we suspected foul play and the bag was collected from him.
“Upon searching the bag, a head and two hands of a lady was seen in the bag and that was how people descended on him,’’ he said.
“The timely intervention of policemen from the Area K Command, Morogbo saved the suspect from being lynched by angry mob,’’ Mr Deji Sebonji, another eyewitness told NAN.
Lagos State Police spokesman, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, told NAN that investigation was underway to ascertain the identity of the victim.
He added that the matter would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti

Is he finished COMPLETELY or completely FINISHED?

... footballer thanks wife and girlfriend on live TV
That awkward moment when it seems like all the forces from your father and your mother side from the village have conspired to finish you completely. For Muhammad Anas, it is evident that unlike R Kelly whose “storm is over”,  Anas tongue is still loading from Apapa because his wife back home is ready to ditch to him (not the tastiest of meals) but the unrestrained strokes from an enraged housewife.
The Ghanaian striker who last week Friday goofed on live TV when he appreciated the combine effort of his lovely “wife and girlfriend”.
The 22-year-old striker who is clearly in trouble with his wife after scoring an own goal during a revealing post-match interview on live TV, which has been branded “the best man-of-the-match speech of all time”.
The winning speech from the ‘fortunate’ baller reads -  "Firstly I appreciate my fans," Anas began before adding: "[And] my wife and my girlfriend."
After realising his mistake, Anas attempted to make amends as the camera continued to roll.
"I'm so sorry, my wife!" he quickly added. "I love you so much from my heart."
"Thanks for supporting me there is more to come," he blundered on before the interview came to an end.
As a typical Nigerian man, in sympathetic resonance you will empathize with Anas because after all we men sometimes suffer similar ordeal after you done all you can pass wording your phones, especially your text messages and your social media handles; only for you to let your guards down and the cat jumps out of the bag, seriously my brother you are most likely completely finished only God can come to your rescue. #BBNaija: Housemates produce hit single “See gobe”

After the initial frenzy that inundated the housemates as a result of the unprecedented visit of the ace music producer, Don Jazzy and the DNA twins, housemates have literally evolved and morphed from their rather psychedelic excited mode to more musically creative personas.
Their potential hit song tentatively titled “see gobe” by the writer, which is clearly the brainchild of the incredibly talented housemates, is one that will stick closely to your subconscious whether you like it or not.
With the set up of the mini studio in the house, housemates now have the enviable privilege and opportunity to be produced (on the spot) by the Mavin’s boss himself.
You can’t but enjoy the porpourri and harmonious blend of voices from the housemates.
Regardless of your cultural, moral, or religious reservations, one fact remains that the Nigerian youths are incredibly talented – this is evident in the constellation of talents that the house has produced since the inception of the greatly debated show hosted on a foreign soil – South Africa.

World Bank to invest $57bn in Nigeria, Sub-Saharan Africa

The World Bank Group President, Mr Jim Kim said the bank would be investing 57 billion dollars to accelerate growth and development In Sub-Saharan African countries over the next three years.
In a statement released to Nigerian journalist by the Senior Communications Officer, World Bank Nigeria, Mrs Olufunke Olufon, on Monday in Abuja, Kim said the money would be raised by three subsidiaries of the group.
According to Kim, the funding will run from July 1, 2017, to June 30, 2020.
“The bulk of the financing, 45 billion dollars will come from the International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank Group’s fund for the poorest countries.
“The financing for Sub-Saharan Africa also will include an estimated eight billion dollars in private sector investments from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a private sector arm of the Bank Group.
“Four billion dollars in financing will come from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, its non-concessional public sector arm,” he said.
Kim said the move presented an opportunity to change the development trajectory of the countries in the region, including Nigeria.
“With this commitment, we will work with our clients to substantially expand programs in education, basic health services, clean water and sanitation, agriculture, business climate, infrastructure, and institutional reform.
“The IDA financing for operations in Africa will be critical to addressing roadblocks that prevent the region from reaching its potential.
“To support countries’ development priorities, scaled-up investments will focus on tackling conflict, fragility, and violence; building resilience to crises including forced displacement, climate change, and pandemics; and reducing gender inequality.
“Efforts will also promote governance and institution building, as well as jobs and economic transformation.
“This financing will help African countries continue to grow, create opportunities for their citizens, and build resilience to shocks and crises,” he said.
Kim said that much of the estimated 45 billion dollars from IDA, would be dedicated to country-specific programs.
He explained that significant amount would be available to finance regional initiatives, support refugees and their host communities, and help countries in the aftermath of crises.
He said this would be complemented by a newly established Private Sector Window (PSW) for Africa, because many sound investments go untapped due to lack of capital and perceived risks.
He said the PSW will supplement existing instruments of IFC and the Group’s arm that offers political risk insurance and credit enhancement to spur sound investments through de-risking, blended finance, and local currency lending.
“This World Bank Group financing will support transformational projects during the 2018 to 2020 financial period.
“The IBRD priorities will include health, education, and infrastructure projects such as expanding water distribution and access to power.
“The priorities for the private sector investment will include infrastructure, financial markets, and agribusiness.
“IFC also will deepen its engagement in fragile and conflict-affected states and increase climate-related investments.
“Expected IDA outcomes include essential health and nutrition services for up to 400 million people, access to improved water sources for up to 45 million, and 5GW of additional generation capacity for renewable energy.”
Kim said the IDA financing would build on a portfolio of 448 ongoing projects in Africa totaling about 50 billion dollars.
On this, he said a 1.6 billion dollars financing package was being developed to tackle the impending threat of famine in parts of Sub-Saharan Africa and other regions.

Photographers seek good laboratories, other facilities, from govt

A professional photographer, Mr Gbolahan Adebayo, on Monday, called on all tiers of government to help photographers in providing all facilities, including good laboratories to facilitate their works.
Adebayo, the Public Relations Officer, Professional Photographers Association of Nigeria (PPAN), Lagos, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
He said this was a way of creating jobs for those interested in learning photography, who, would also learn with modern equipment if assisted by government.
“We do not have good laboratories and modern equipment to do our job properly; we are still using obsolete equipment.
“We need to create awareness for the people and photographers about the lucrative business in photography,’’ Adebayo said.
He said that those currently deploying the digital technology in photography were on the right track “but not everyone can afford it’’.
“Digital photography is a technology in photography that uses computers and some other technological accessories to produce more quality pictures.
“That is what most of our people need in the photography business and also high quality digital cameras which are exorbitant.
“This is why we are calling on government to help us,’’ he said.
The public relations officer, however, said that it would be good if government could also assist in giving loans to photographers to buy the necessary equipment they need.
Adebayo said that photographers needed a lot of documentation to do to safeguard their works.
“In this digital era in photography, it is easy to edit photographs on laptops; and help store a lot of photographs.
“It will add value to what we are doing.
“It does not need the use of negative films or dark rooms to do the jobs but these equipment are very costly.
“So, if we can get loans and acquire these things, the job will be easier,’’ he said.
Adebayo said that if photographers would buy cameras of N100, 000 to about N1million, it would not be easy to make the money back as quickly as possible but with loan, they could buy and pay back gradually.
“People refuse to pay high on photographs. They will tell you it is just photo but a lot of things go into it.
“The computer has special equipment that makes photographs to come out good and nice,’’ he said.

Wenger to extend Arsenal stay

Beleaguered Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has decided to stay at the club, according to British media reports on Monday.
The Daily Telegraph and Daily Mirror said Wenger will inform Arsenal’s board he wants to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the season.
Wenger, 67, has come under fire from fans after Arsenal were thrashed by Bayern Munich in the Champions League and slipped out of the Premier League’s top four.
Supporters renewed calls for him to step down during and after Saturday’s 3-1 loss at West Bromwich Albion, with some holding up “WENGER OUT” banners.
Speaking after the game, Wenger said he had made up his mind about his future and would make his intentions public “very soon”.
West Brom manager Tony Pulis said Wenger had told him he intended to stay.
“I’ll be surprised if he goes,” Pulis told reporters after Saturday’s game, as revealed in Monday’s newspapers.
Asked why he thought Wenger would stay, Pulis replied: “Because he told me.”
Arsenal have not commented on the reports on Wenger’s future.
The Frenchman, Arsenal’s manager since 1996, is believed to have been offered a new two-year contract.
Arsenal’s support is split over Wenger, who won seven trophies in his first nine seasons as manager but has won only two FA Cups in the 12 years since.
Rival groups of Arsenal supporters paid for planes trailing banners that were both critical and supportive of him to fly over the stadium during the game against West Brom.
One banner read “NO CONTRACT #WENGER OUT”, the other: “IN ARSENE WE TRUST #RESPECTAW”.
The defeat at West Brom was Arsenal’s fourth in five league games and left them in sixth place in the Premier League table, six points below the Champions League places with two games in hand.
They recently lost 10-2 on aggregate to Bayern in the Champions League, going out in the round of 16 for the seventh season running.
Wenger said his future at Arsenal was not contingent on the club securing a place in next season’s Champions League.
“My decision will not necessarily be linked with that because I’ve done the top four 20 times. It’s more. It’s not that,” he said.
“I take a bigger perspective than that. It’s not the last result that will decide what I will do.”

7 Ways to Make Long Drives More Comfortable

Travelling is generally fun. But having to travel long distances by road can be a nightmare!
Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency shares 7 ways to make travelling by road more comfortable for you.
Get a good night sleep
Most times, because we pack at the eleventh hour, we end up getting very little sleep the day before we are to travel. Avoid this. Have a good night’s sleep before the travel day; unwind, relax and prepare your body for the trip. It’s much easier to cope with the stress of road travel this way.
Wear a comfortable outfit
This is very important especially for the ladies. For long drives, relegate fashion to the background for a bit and let comfort take center stage. There really is no need to dress to impress since you are going to be in a car or bus for the better part of the day. Loose fitting pants and shirts are ideal for road travel.
Pack healthy snacks and eat light
If you decide to pack snack along with you on the trip, be sure it’s healthy, not the type that’s likely to purge or upset your stomach. Also, eat light. You don’t want to be that person in the vehicle with the constant need to ease himself/herself, and some of the time you are going to have to do so out by or in the bush because the nearest toilet might be a mile away.
Be mindful of your posture
You should keep your body moving during the trip, especially if you are a passenger. Periodically switch sitting positions, pump your ankles and move your arms to prevent aches and pains. You should also avoid slouching and can consider taking along with you a travel pillow or a small pillow to support your back. If you are the one driving, you can also consider using cruise control (if your vehicle has one) when you can, so you can rest your feet for a bit. Be sure to set the cruise control at a safe speed.
Use relaxation techniques
Playing soft music during the trip or using relaxation techniques like deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation etc. can help reduce your stress levels during a long ride. You can also take full advantage of the few stops during the trip to stretch and walk around. In addition, you can take a book along with you to read and take a biro and notebook to scribble thoughts on and maybe write journal entries or even new music (if you are a writer or songwriter).
Bring along disposable pre-moistened body wipes
Riding along in a car for hours can make your body feel sticky so you can bring along disposable pre-moistened body wipes to freshen up a bit during the ride and keep comfortable. You can wipe your body down in the privacy of the restroom at a rest stop or simply wipe yourself discreetly in the vehicle. Favor alcohol-free disposable wipes when buying these – they are kinder to your skin.
Stop occasionally
Especially if you are the one driving, you should build some stops into your timeline when planning road trips, especially if you have children with you. Stop for some minutes to stretch, use the restroom and walk around to relax your body and help improve your blood flow.

Missing Petrol: NNPC announces measures to recover product

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Friday said it had taken measures to recover 130 million litres of petrol from two downstream oil operators over operational infraction.
The NNPC Chief Operating Officer, Downstream, Mr Henry Ikem-Obih, made this known in Abuja in a statement by Mr Ndu Ughamadu, NNPC Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division.
Ikem-Obih said that the 130 million litres would be recovered from facilities of two indigenous operators, MRS Limited and Capital Oil & Gas Limited.
He said that over 100 million litres of petrol stored at the Capital Oil & Gas depot and over 30 million litres in MRS Limited depot, all in Apapa area of Lagos, were not found when needed.
“We instructed the Nigerian Products Marketing Company (NPMC), a subsidiary of NNPC, to send additional trucks to those locations to move products for distribution aimed at meeting a supply shortfall we discovered in the market.
“After days of not being able to access the terminals, we had to take a decision as NNPC Management, to invite auditors and inspectors to go and do a physical check on the inventories.
“The visit revealed that there was no molecule of product for the NNPC to evacuate,’’ he said.
Ikem-Obih said the infraction by the two downstream companies was a clear violation of existing contract, which prohibited the firms from tampering with the volumes in their custody without express permission of the corporation
He said, “armed with this information we promptly called them in to explain to us what happened to our product in their custody.
“After the meeting with them, we issued them letters and told them in clear terms to do either of two things.
“One, return to us the full volume of what was stored in their depots litre-for-litre or pay the full value of the products they took without our approval.’’
He said that NNPC alerted the Directorate of State Service (DSS), the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and relevant committees of National Assembly with oversight function on the corporation’s downstream operation to help recover the assets.
Ikem-Obih said that this was contrary to the insinuation that NNPC kept mute over the infraction until the Senate uncovered it.
“So far, MRS has fully complied by returning the 30 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) that it expropriated.
“But, we have not achieved much progress with Capital Oil & Gas which has yet to return 82 million litres of petrol valued at N11 billion, out of over 100 million litres which it took,’’ he disclosed.
He stated that NNPC had set up two committees to evaluate the roles played by some of its staff in the illegal evacuation of the products.
He added that one of the committees was mandated to review the corporation’s entire throughput policy in order to align it with global best practices.
According to the COO, as part of efforts to forestall a repeat of similar occurrence, a disciplinary committee is already investigating the level of involvement of staff with a view to applying appropriate sanctions.
“The second committee,’’ he said, “is reviewing the corporation’s policy and guidelines for engaging in throughput arrangements with third parties to establish control measures that can help avert a similar incident in the future’’.
On the impact of the product diversion on the supply chain, he said that the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr Maikanti Baru, had approved an increase in importation of petrol to make up for the shortfall.

EPL Fixtures Uncaring - Mourinho

The Premier League has no interest in helping English clubs in Europe, says Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.
United play Middlesbrough on Sunday with the 12:00 GMT kick-off coming 62 hours after the end of their Europa League last-16 victory over FC Rostov.
Mourinho says United will “probably lose” and it would be “common sense” for the game to start at 17:00.
“They simply don’t care,” added the Portuguese of the Premier League, who offered no comment on the situation.
There is an agreement that clubs in Europa League action on a Thursday do not play on Saturdays. An international break stops the Premier League game at The Riverside from being played on Monday.
Premier League host broadcasters Sky and BT Sport decide which games they will televise live. Sky can show two mid-afternoon games on a Sunday – Tottenham v Southampton and Manchester City v Liverpool this week – and the game at Middlesbrough is being shown on BT Sport, who have the option of a midday slot.

Expert cautions on using mobile phones, computers at night

Dr Omale Charles, Managing Director, Fortress Eye Hospital and Medical Centre, Abuja, has advised those who spend long periods of time on their mobile devices at night to always leave room lights on.
Charles gave this advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.
He said this would go a long way to reduce the level of light directed to the eyes which could lead to damage to one’s vision.
The expert was speaking on the sidelines of this year’s World Glaucoma Week (WGW) commemorated from March 12 to March 18, with the theme: “Beat Invisible Glaucoma”.
Charles said those who spent long periods of time on these devices and also computers should ensure they took breaks away from the devices and gadgets in order to protect the eyes from damage caused by excessive exposure to light.
“Working long hours on the computer can affect the eyes and vision. This can trigger a negative reaction to the eyes and cause headache, loss of concentration and ultimately predisposes one to develop Computer Visual Syndrome.
“If this continues on a long term basis, it can lead to permanent damage to the eyes.
“Therefore, one should make efforts to wear protective eye glasses or use a computer screen so that the level of direct light to the eyes is reduced.
“When you work on the computer screen for long periods you should try to take a break from your work once in a while.
“From 20 seconds to about 20 minutes try to look at least 20 feet away and that way you break the continuous exposure of the light to your eyes which can result in damage to the element of vision.”
He also cautioned the public, especially those predisposed to or at risk of developing eye diseases against excessive consumption of alcohol.
Charles said consuming alcohol in excess quantity could affect the nerves of the eyes increasing the chances of damage to one’s vision.
The expert, who described alcohol as a depressant, said the substance once consumed overtime gave a feeling of euphoria and subsequently affected one’s thinking and coordination.
Charles said alcohol could only give such feeling to an individual because it worked through the nerves, adding that any substance that worked using the nerves could affect vision.
“For someone who already has a biological predisposition to glaucoma, taking alcohol or any other substance that can affect your nerves, thereby accelerating damage to the nerve of vision.
“Another thing to consider is the quantity of alcohol consumed by an individual and the level of concentration of this alcohol.
“Drug and substance abuse also has negative effects on the eyes; activities such as direct gaze at the sun can expose one to ultra-violent radiation.
“When moving outdoors, you should wear protective eye shade or a face cap to protect your eyes from this radiation because it can cause external growth within the eyes and can serve as a trigger for vision impairment.”
He listed other activities that could directly affect the eyes to include welding, adding that the iron particles caused direct trauma to the eyes.

Lafia Poly suspends two workers over illegal tuition fees

The Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia has suspended two workers found to have  collected illegal tuition fees, its Rector, Mr Silas Gyar, said on Friday in Lafia.
“The two staff were involved in illegal collection of fees to the tune of N4 million; when we discovered the illegality, management set up a committee to investigate the matter.
“The committee recommended six months suspension, after which they duo would refund the money to the institution’s coffers,” he told newsmen.
He said that the management, however, suspended the workers for one year because of the severity of the offence.
“The staff have agreed to refund the money but management has, nonetheless, reported the matter to the Governing Council, the institution’s highest decision making body, for further action.
“Their fate will be determined by the council; whatever it says is final,” he declared.
He said that the school had set up a committee to look into cases of fraud and indiscipline in the polytechnic.
“The intention is to deal with people involved so as to deter others from committing similar offences,” he said.
The Rector said that management had also set up monitoring teams to check social vices by both students and staff, and cautioned workers and students against violating the institution’s rules and regulations.

Trump, health secretary fight for votes on U.S. healthcare overhaul

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday stepped up his fight for support on Republicans’ plan to dismantle Obamacare.
He wooed some conservative lawmakers at the White House while legislation advanced toward a possible vote in the House of Representatives by next week.
Republicans remain deeply divided over their U.S. healthcare overhaul.
That was Trump’s first major legislative initiative and one that aims to make good on his campaign pledge to repeal and replace the healthcare plan put in place by his Democratic predecessor, Barack Obama.
Trump met at the White House with 13 members of the House Republican Study Committee, a large group of conservative lawmakers seeking changes to Medicaid, the joint federal-state health insurance programme for the poor.
